Summary
This program profiles several human rights heroes who have made significant contributions throughout the world. It includes footage of Chief Wai-Wai, who succeeded in securing land rights on behalf of the Brazilian Waiapi, a tribe whose livelihood was being threatened by industrial intrusions into their forests. It praises Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu, who traveled to over 26 countries in her efforts to further the cause of the indigenous peoples of Guatemala. The program showcases journalist Roy Gutman and filmmaker Ademir Kenovic, who helped uncover many of the atrocities in war torn Bosnia, including mass deportations and Serbian concentration camps. After a tribute to the slain reporter, Veronica Guerin, the program focuses on the courage and tenacity of people who devote their lives to combating genocide, right wing nationalism, organized crime, and economic exploitation; plus a profile of the African-American social activist and author Geoffrey Canada (Fist Stick Knife Gun: A Personal History of Violence in America), who is the president of the Harlem Children's Zone in Harlem, New York
