Because of its complexity, assessment of the nervous system begins with a good understanding of the components of the central and peripheral nervous system. And, because sensations can be difficult to measure, subjective data is a more critical part of assessment of the nervous system than other body systems. For these reasons, it's important for the nurse to understand the components of the nervous system be able to be skilled at collecting subjective data.
