- Summary
- This video is from WITNESS' partnership with the Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice and the Greater North Women's Voices for Peace Network in Uganda. Beginning in 1986, Northern Uganda experienced one of the longest-running conflicts on the African continent. The conflict resulted in mass internal displacement; subsequent extreme poverty; the abduction of women, men, and children and large-scale acts of rape and other forms of gender-based violence committed by the Lord's Resistance Army. In 2008, the Government of Uganda initiated the Peace, Recovery and Development Plan for Northern Uganda (PRDP). However, since the PRDP's launch and implementation, several of its programs are not reaching the communities in the Greater North they are meant to benefit. Now, in this video, women from the Greater North are calling on the Government of Uganda to uphold its commitments under the PRDP and the Juba Peace Agreements and to provide the women of the Greater North with justice, assistance and the ability to rebuild their lives
