Summary
In the Line of Fire exposes the harsh reality of covering news from the Middle East. While people around the world follow the conflict from the comfort of their living rooms, the journalists taking the pictures are being attacked and even shot by Israeli soldiers while they are covering the West Bank. This is either gross negligence or intentional. This documentary follows two Reuters cameramen, Mazen Dana and Nael Shyoukhi, who live and work in the West Bank city of Hebron. They work alongside cameramen from other competing news agencies, but in the field they all watch each other s backs. Even though they attempt to stay on the sidelines, these journalists have all too often become the target of attacks. After years of being the object of violence themselves, the Hebron cameramen decided to compile a video archive of beatings, shootings and humiliation. For the first time this video archive is brought to light in this film. Since the recent Palestinian uprising began, a growing list of foreign journalists has made similar claims that they have been shot at despite being clearly identified as journalists. Israel s army has investigated only a handful of cases despite vigorous lobbying from The Committee to Protect Journalists, Reporters Sans Frontiers and the Foreign Press Association in Israel
