Summary
This film documents startling testimonies of women who were mistreated and sexually abused while seeking care in Peruvian public health facilities. Their stories are typical of impoverished women all over Latin America. Betrayed by the very people they turn to for help, these women are left humiliated and distrustful of the medical profession. While most of the victims are young, indigenous women living in conditions of extreme poverty, they are determined to have their stories told so that others do not have to face the same abuse. This video gives a human face to documented human rights violations. The women regain their dignity and self respect by speaking out here. As one twenty-three year old victim of sexual abuse says "No one ever made me cry before, but that doctor did. All that I ask of the authorities is that they do me justice." A powerful assertion of women's rights in Latin America. For further information about reproductive rights in Latin America go to www.crlp.org
