Summary
Following last year's suicides, security has been stepped up at Guantanamo. The most dangerous prisoners are kept in the high security wing, Camp 6, and are subject to constant surveillance. Inmates at Camp 6 are kept in their cells for 22 hours a day. The camp was modeled on a high security prison in America. There are no external windows and large fluorescent lights stay on 24 hours a day. 'We shouldn't forget that the reason they're here is because they are terrorists', states Commander Harry Harris. Detainees eat alone and physical contact is kept to a minimum. Lawyers claim this regime of virtual solitary confinement is driving many to despair. But the military disputes this and has launched a vigorous counteroffensive. As Harris states; 'We are doing an important mission in the global war against terrorism'
