Summary
An examination of the practice of female circumcision, which still exists amongst African communities in Britain in spite of being illegal in this country since 1985. A group of Somalian women in Ealing talk about the practice and its perceived importance as part of their culture and religion, with a mixed response from some women who do not want their daughters to be circumsized and those that do. There are also interviews with young women who describe the pain and problems that they suffer because of their mutilation, and the dilemma posed to social workers and teachers who want to protect girls but do not want to interfere or impose upon another's culture and tradition
