- Summary
- In January 1945 , the Allies were beginning to fight their way into Germany . And as they did so and prepared for the battle to reach the heart of the Nazi Reich , they talked of the Europe they wanted to create once the war was over. The British and Americans were fighting for a new Europe , an end to dictatorship. How could it be amid the Allies victorious advance that this dream of a democratic, post-war Europe would crumble -- and that it was a leading Nazi who predicted the catastrophe that would divide Europe for almost 50 years?
