- Summary
- This collection of fourteen articles discusses the role that women play in a variety cultures. The analysis of women's roles are divided into three subareas: Manipulative societies, complimentary societies, and ascendant societies. Field material examines of women among the Amasuaca, the Egyptians, the French, the Guatemalans, North Central India, Udu, China, Eskimo, Kahmers, Phillipines, and the Middle East. These articles, trace the role of women and present the fact that women's lib is not new phenomenon. Indeed, the thrust is to attack the myth that women can be stereotyped as universally submissive and oppressed. That women, in fact, in many societies equal rights and prestige with men is one of the major thrusts of this book. -- From http://www.jstor.org (Sep. 27, 2016)
