- Summary
- Condors Released: High in the Andes Mountains, in a place where local condors were hunted to extinction, six were recently given a new chance. Huge conservation efforts have improved their numbers, but condors remain vulnerable. Waste To Home Furnishings: Tucked away in a quiet London street is 'Fabrications', showcasing and selling the ultimate in green chic for the home. Making clever use of items normally destined for landfill, designer Barley Massey, creates and sells attractive soft furnishings and accessories. Indonesian Coral Reefs: Indonesia's coral reefs house 97% of the world's reef species. Yet rising sea temperatures threaten their existence. Fuel-cell Taxis: In Tokyo, a chauffeur driven car service is now operating a fleet of Nissan X-Trail fuel cell vehicles. This is the first time a hire car service has used FCVs, enabling consumers to experience the performance and benefits of the advanced clean technology. Cambodia Wildlife: Caught up in the Vietnam war, Cambodia forest suffered terribly. In a pocket of the old Ho Chi Minh Trail, there is today a very special peace and calm where the inhumanity of war and genocide once raged. It is an animal sanctuary, home to at least 42 threatened species including elephants, tigers, monkeys, leopards and bears. German Glacier: In Bavaria, at the Austrian border, is Germany's tallest mountain, the Zugspitze. Here, despite extraordinary efforts to save it, Germany's last glacier is dwindling. Every spring since 1991, ski resort workers have piled tonnes of loose snow on the glacier, and then covered it with giant anti-glare shields. This year because of the heat a 50% bigger tarpaulin went on a week earlier. UK Homes Of The Future: Giving us a peek into the future is the Sigma House, with many ecological features that could soon be standard in new British homes
